The art of recycling "serving" renewable energies
Its name is Emission Trading and it is also the title of the personal exhibition of Gloria Tranchida during ZeroEmission Rome 2009. It is part of a series of art pieces made with recycled materials, especially paper and cardboard as basic materials, in contrast with the consumerist “disposable” lifestyle of our times.
In her artwork, in fact, Gloria Tranchida uses a mixed-materials technique with main basic materials as paper and corrugated cardboard saved from waste. The artist uses gold and metallic colours to give these waste materials a new valuable appearance and to underline precisely their forgotten preciousness. Waste materials in Gloria’s artworks do not participate in “assemblies”, as it often happens with other recycling artists, but they mark forms and volumes within the intimate material of the art piece.
Overall, the artistic activity of Gloria Tranchida, who is, besides, a chemist and is therefore sensitive and scientifically trained to environmental issues, is actually totally dedicated to raising environmental awareness. Arsenic, CO2, Renewable sources, Photovoltaic, Wind energy, Biofuel, Biomass, Dump, PM10, light pollution, Photosynthesis, are the titles of other artworks in show.
