In a mini-show of GSES/CONASES the history of Concentrating Thermal Solar Power, from the legend of Archimede’s “burning” mirrors to the “mirrors” of the third millennium: modern solar concentrators for the production of heat at medium- to high temperature, electricity and fuel. The show will also include pictures of pioneering concentrating solar plants designed, built and tested by the mathematician Giovanni Francia (1911-1980) in the 1960s at S. Ilario di Nervi (Genoa). The pictures of the French plants come from national archives on the history of solar power and are a unique demonstration of plant architecture of this Italian scientist known, during his time, as the father of thermo-electrical solar power plants, undergoing an important comeback in recent years.
